Bowie, MD - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams tennis team ran their overall record to 3-0 on the season on Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University by the score of 5-4 in a CIAA league tennis match in Bowie, MD.
The Lady Rams got behind early in the match as Amber Steward dropped her match at first singles to T. Jackson by the score of 7-6 (8-0), 6-0 as WSSU lost the first singles point.
WSSU bounced back immediately as the Lady Rams earned wins at second and third singles when Trinette Lewis and Amanda Walker picked up wins by the scores of 7-5, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs grabbed two more singles points at fourth singles and sixth singles, but allowed WSSU to snatch their third singles point at fifth singles as Janet Wheeler defeated A. Barrett 6-2, 6-4.
With the match knotted at 3-3, the Lady Rams calmly stepped up and won the first two doubles matches to earn the win. Trinette Lewis and Amanda Walker earned an 8-4 win at first doubles, and Ashley Hopper and Amber Stewart picked up an identical 8-4 win at second doubles to move WSSU to 3-0 on the year.
With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 3-0 on the year and move to 2-0 in the CIAA. WSSU returns to action on Thursday, March 17th, 2005 at 1:00 PM as they welcome the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University to the WSSU Tennis Complex.
