Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams tennis team fell in defeat to the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles by the slimmest of margins in the second of a pair of CIAA tennis matches at the WSSU Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, NC on Tuesday afternoon by the score of 5-4.
The Lady Rams, who fall to 8-8 overall on the season with the loss, put up a fight but fell short by a single point to the Lady Eagles to lose their second match of the afternoon.
WSSU was able to earn four points in the match as Amber Stewart was victorious at first singles for the second consecutive match by the score of 8-6, Ashley Hopper emerged victorious at fourth singles by the score of 8-6 and Janet Wheeler was a winner at fifth singles by the score of 3-1 (retired). As well, Wheeler teamed up with doubles partner Hopper earned the 8-5 victory at second doubles.
The Lady Rams return to action on April 10th, 2004 when they welcome St. Augustine's College to Winston-Salem, NC at 12:00 pm for WSSU's final regular season tennis match before next weekend's CIAA tennis championships.
