Charlotte, NC - Virginia State University captured two first-place doubles championships on Thursday afternoon and Fayetteville State captured one title as the Lady Trojans and Lady Broncos jumped out to an early lead after the first day of the CIAA Women's Tennis Championships at Hornet's Nest Park in Charlotte, NC.
In number three doubles action, the Lady Broncos Tamieka McLean and LaKeisha Cribb strung together three straight wins to capture the championship. Finishing second was the host-team Lady Golden Bull's pairing of Kern Legette and Natasha Hairston who fell in the championship by the score of 8-5.

In second doubles action, Virginia State's pairing of Barnes and Pegues surrendered only two points in three matches as they breezed to a championship. The Lady Broncos were hot on the heels of the Lady Trojans all the way up to the finals, but Jackson and Maynor failed to score a point in the championship round and fell by the score of 8-0.

In first doubles action is was Virginia State who tallied their second women's doubles title of the afternoon as the tandem of Lopez and Saunders defeated Fayetteville State's Elohim and Bennett 9-7 in a tie-breaker to capture the title for the Lady Trojans.
