WSSU's John Martin Named CIAA Women's Tennis Coach of the Year

HAMPTON, VA - The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams tennis teams earned numerous postseason honors as both Rams and Lady Rams players were named to the 2011 All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) teams. A pair of Lady Rams earned spots on the All-CIAA team while one of the Rams earned the honor as well.

Winston-Salem State Lady Ram sophomores Kayla Carter and Kalin Jarvis both earned spots on the women's All-CIAA team after leading the Lady Rams to a . Carter finished the 2011 season with a 16-4 (9-2 CIAA) singles record with a 9-2 record in CIAA play and joined Jarvis to post a 22-3 doubles record. Jarvis finished the 2011 season with a 16-2 (10-1 CIAA) overall record. Carter primarily played in the #1 position while Jarvis played third and fourth positions.

Coxton was the only Rams player to earn All-CIAA honors. For the season, he posted a 13-7 overall record and a 9-1 record in CIAA play.

The Rams and Lady Rams tennis teams will begin their quest for a CIAA championship this weekend at the 2011 CIAA Tennis Championships on the campus of Virginia State University.
