PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State University track & field teams had a solid effort on the second day of the 2012 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Saturday. The Rams and Lady Rams gave some great individual efforts at the meet, but could not get over some key struggles.
WSSU junior Andrew Chebii led the way for the Rams as he was named the CIAA Men's MVP of the meet after several great efforts on the day. After winning the men's 1500m run, yesterday, Chebii returned to win the men's 5000m run with a 15:04.80 and finished eighth in the men's 800m run with a 1:58.65. Rams freshman Michael Neal also had a great effort, tying for second in the men's 200m dash with a 21.62 and fourth in the men's 100m dash with a 10.89.
The Lady Rams also had a solid effort on the day with a second place finish in the women's 4x400m relay in a time of 3:41.95, an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time. WSSU senior sprinter Shanika Lamons won the women's 200m dash with a 24.34, another NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time. She also won the women's 100m dash with a 12.07.
