WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams Indoor Track & Field team opened the 2013-14 season at the same place that they hope to end it when they competed in the JDL Collegiate Kick-Off at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., the site of the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships. The Lady Rams had some impressive performances early in the season and showed a lot of promise for the upcoming season.
As a team, the Lady Rams saw some solid performances both on the track and in field events as well. WSSU sophomore sprinter Raven Covington led the way with a third place finish in the women's 60m dash finals with a 7.67. Senior Kristi Baptiste also had a great performance in the women's 400m run with a 59.20 to place fifth in the event. The WSSU women's 4x400m relay team also had a strong effort with a third place finish at the event as well with a 3:59.48.
The Lady Rams also saw some great performances in the field events with junior Tajanel McNeil leading the way. After qualifying for the 2013 NCAA Division II National Championships last season, McNeill got things off again this season with a strong early performance. She placed third in the women's long jump with a 38'4" (11.68m) leap. She placed eighth in the women's long jump with a 17'4.75" (5.30m) leap. Junior DaVona Dula placed ninth in the women's weight throw with a 46'4.25" (14.13m) throw.
The Lady Rams will return to action next year when the team returns to action on January 19th when the team hosts the Winston-Salem State Open at the JDL Fast Track.
