WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams indoor track & field team put on some strong showings in front of the home crowd at the Winston-Salem State Open at the JDL Fast Track, Sunday. The Lady Rams saw some great performances in all areas of the meet.
The WSSU efforts began in the field events when WSSU junior jumper Tajanel McNeil set the tone for the Lady Rams, winning the women's triple jump with a leap of 38'7.5" (11.7m). Sophomore Raven Covington also had a strong effort with a fifth place finish in the women's long jump with a 17'6.75" (5.35m) jump. Sophomore Raven Byrd also had a great effort in the women's high jump where she placed second with a 5'5.25" (1.61m) leap.
On the track, it was freshman Micalyne Zimmerman who paced the Lady Rams with a second place finish in the women's 1-Mile Run with a 5:42.75. Sophomore Danisha Wiggins was close behind with a 5:52.00 in the event to place fourth. Wiggins was also impressive in the women's 3,000m run where Wiggins placed fourth with an 11:43.62 while Zimmerman added a fifth place finish in the women's 800m run with a 2:23.70.
The Lady Rams relay teams were also impressive as the team's distance medley relay team placed second at the meet with a 12:58.73. The Lady Rams 4x400m relay team added a third place finish with a 4:01.80.
