Lady Rams, Rams Strong at Eddie & Joe UNC Classic - WINSTON-SALEM STATE OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

CHAPEL HILL, NC - The cold weather didn't slow down the Winston-Salem State indoor track and field teams, Saturday with both the Rams and Lady Rams taking part in the 2008 Eddie & Jo Smith UNC Classic. The WSSU sprinters had a great showing at the event with a number of top ten finishes at the meet.

Lady Ram senior Irene Jeptolo led the way for the Lady Rams with a fourth-place finish in the women's 3000m run in a time of 10:52.78 in the finals of the event. She had her best time in the preliminaries of the event running a 10:33.00. She also finished 10^th in the women's one-mile run with a time of 5:35.18. Junior sprinter Wykeita Barnett had a great 7^th place finish in the women's 60m dash in a time of 7.99 in the event. Her best time of the day came in the preliminaries of the event with a time of 7.88. Sophomore Javonna Brown finished 10^th in the finals of the women's 200m dash with a time of 26.92.

The Rams sprinters were not to be outdone in the effort with junior sprinter Richard Marcellus finishing eighth in the men's 200m dash with a time of 22.62 in the event. Junior Nathan Summerville also notched a top-ten finish placing seventh in the men's high jump with a height of 6-02.00 in the event.

The Rams and Lady Rams will not rest long, however, as the squads will take part in the Liberty Fast Times in Lynchburg, VA next weekend.
