CHAPEL HILL, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams had a very successful first day of competition from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill fast times indoor track and field challenge held at the Eddie Smith Field House in Chapel Hill, NC on Friday evening.
The Lady Rams' Sandy Harrison continues to prove to be one of the state of North Carolina's dominant runners as she posted a 1:01.19 in the women's 400 meters, earning a 10th place finish in the process.
The host-team Tarheels proved to be a force to be reckoned with in the 400 meter event as UNC freshman Callie Pottinger bested the field with her 56.19 time - her best clocking of the season. She was joined by three UNC teammates under the one-minute mark as

The Lady Rams' Irene Jeptolo continues to dominate her competition as she turned in WSSU's best individual finish on the first day of competition as she recorded a second place showing in the women's 5000 meters with a time of 18:59.78. Jeptolo was bested by only
In men's track and field action the Rams saw Gerrod Sidbury earn a fifth place finish in the men's 400 meters as he recorded a time of 50.30 seconds. Sidbury finished behind a pair of Carolina runners in Bryan McCrary (45.83) and Ryan Booker (49.90) who earned second and third place finishes and behind Omar Wells (49.99) of North Carolina State University who earned a fourth place finish.
Winning the event was James Carter who ran unattached and turned in the first place time of 48.40 seconds.
The Rams and Lady Rams return to action on Saturday morning at 10:30 am when they resume action from the UNC-Chapel Hill fast times track and field event. The event is scheduled to conclude in the early evening.
