TALLAHASSEE, FL - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams got their first taste of outdoor competition, Friday and Saturday at the 57th Annual Florida A&M Relays hosted by Florida A&M University at the Pete Griffin Track Complex in Tallahassee, Florida. While the WSSU sprinters grabbed the headlines during the indoor season, it was the throwers making a statement in the team's first outdoor meet of the season. Freshman Cynthia Grady finished ninth overall in the women's discus throw with a distance of 101'10" in the event. Senior John Mobley led the way for the Rams with a fifth place finish in the men's discus throw, tossing a distance of 129'03". Three Lady Ram sprinters took part in the women's 100m dash with sophomore Wykeita Barnett leading the way with a 00:12.82 in the event. Javonna Brown finished the event in 00:13.29 while Christina Carter posted a time of 00:14.04. The Rams had some solid performances as well with sprinter Yigbe Zayzay finished 11th in the men's 100m dash finishing the event with a time of 11.17. Demetrius Rivers finished with a time of 11.62. Junior distance runner Kenneth Koech had a great showing in the men's 5000m run with a time of 17:34.09. Both WSSU relay teams posted great times in their first action of the outdoor season with the Lady Rams finishing eighth in the women's 4x100m relay with a time of 00:50.08. The team finished fifth in the women's 4x400m relay with a time of 04:16.39. The men's relay team finished sixth in the men's 4x400m relay with a time of 03:17.61. Both teams will return to action next Saturday when they take part in the 2007 Shamrock Invitational at
