Complete Results

CONWAY, SC - The Winston-Salem State track & field teams showed that they belonged posting some terrific times at the Shamrock Invitational at Coastal Carolina this weekend. Both the men's and women's sprint relay teams posted top ten finishes at the meet to highlight the team's effort amongst a quality field of competition.

The Lady Rams' 4x200m relay team had the best overall finish for Winston-Salem State finishing third in the event in a time of 1:44.10. Not to be outdone, however, the Rams finished seventh in the men's 4x200m relay with a time of 1:29.50. Both teams beat out top notch competition as the Lady Rams defeated teams from Virginia Commonwealth, East Carolina, and Bucknell among others. The Rams bested teams from Big South powers Coastal Carolina and Liberty.

The WSSU relay teams were not done, however, as the Lady Rams returned to finish seventh in the women's 4x100m relay in a time of 00:49.58 while the men finished 10^th in a time of 00:44.37. The Lady Rams left behind teams from Virginia Commonwealth as well as teams from Voorhees College and Wilmington (Ohio). The Rams also topped teams from Virginia Commonwealth and Concord College. The Rams 4x400m relay team continued their impressive run finishing fifth in the men's 4x400m relay in a time of 3:22.23 and besting teams from East Carolina and Liberty, among others.

WSSU junior distance runner Irene Jeptolo had the best individual finish at the meet finishing third in the women's 3000m Steeplechase in a time of 11:54.43. She also finished eighth in the women's 3000m run in a time of 11:10.91. Sophomore Sandy Harrison added a 12^th place finish in the women's 400m dash in a time of 00:59.50.

Sophomore sprinter Richard Marcellus had the best individual finish for the Rams finishing eighth in the men's 200m dash with a time of 00:22.12.

Both the Rams and Lady Rams will return to action next weekend when the teams take part in the Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
