PETERSBURG, VA - The Winston-Salem State University women's track and field team continues their on-track success as they earned a third-place finish at the Virginia State University "Trojan Multi-Event Explosion" track meet in Petersburg, VA over the weekend as they recorded 57 points.

The Lady Rams turned in several outstanding performances on the weekend in a meet that was marred by inclement weather which forced event postponements three times.  WSSU tallied eight top ten finishes as the Lady Rams were competitive in nearly every event.

The Lady Rams started the day with Gerri-Lena White's fifth-place finish in the women's 200 meters as she turned in a time of 26.34 seconds, only .22 seconds off of the first-place time.

The 400 meter dash saw WSSU record two top-15 finishes as Malliron Hodge captured the seventh-place spot with a time of 1:03.09 seconds and Wykeita Barnett finished 11th with a time of 1:05.14 seconds.

The women's 800 meters was even more successful for WSSU as Sandy Harrison won the event with a time of 2:30.97 seconds as Tomita Ferguson placed second with a time of 2:34.63 seconds.

Irene Jeptolo continued her distance-running success as she won the women's 1500 meters with a time of 5:02.12 seconds.  Tomita Ferguson placed third with a time of 5:30.71 seconds.

Jessica Adams-Alexander earned a fourth-place finish in the women's 400 meters as she turned in a time of 1:17.58 seconds.

The Lady Rams captured a pair of third-place finishes in the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays as WSSU turned in times of 51.55 seconds and 4:14.85.

With 57 points, the Lady Rams captured a third-place meet finish as Coppin State and Virginia State finished ahead of WSSU.

WSSU returns to the track on April 21 and 22, 2006 at the 2006 CIAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Petersburg, VA.
