Lady Rams, Rams Relay Teams Have Busy Day at 2009 Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, PA - There was plenty of teamwork displayed by the Rams and Lady Rams on the third day of the 2009 Penn Relays as the Winston-Salem State track & field relay teams took center stage. The Rams and Lady Rams competed in five relay events on the fourth day of the event and finished with some great performances.

The Rams relay team got things going for the team with a strong performance in the men's 4x100m relay. The WSSU unit finished the event in 42.15 and placed 42nd of the 88 collegiate teams competing in the event. The Rams finished seventh of the nine teams in the second heat of the event. The Rams' relay teams kept things going when they placed 25th among 55 teams competing in the men's 4x200m relay with a 1:26.66. The Rams placed fifth in the first heat of the event, leaving behind teams four teams.

The Rams' relay teams were not done as the WSSU men's 4x400m relay team kept things going with a 25th place finish in the men's 4x400m relay. The quartet of WSSU senior Richard Marcellus, senior Gerrod Sidbury, freshman Bobby Grier, and junior Chad Smith posted a time of 3:13.57 in the event. The Rams won the fifth heat of the event. The Rams closed the day with a 19th placed finish in the men's distance medley. The unit of freshman Desmond Wiggan, junior Paul Williams, sophomore Elijah Strickland, and freshman Andrew Chebii finished the event in 10.09.87. The Rams finished 13th in the first heat of the event.
 

 

After a busy day, the Lady Rams had just one event on Friday as the team competed in the women's 4x200m relay. The Lady Rams finished 43rd of 53 teams in the event with a time of 1:40.75. The Lady Rams finished seventh in the fourth heat of the event.
