Rams, Lady Rams to Take Part in 57th Annual FAMU Relays

TALLAHASSEE, FL -  The Rams and Lady Rams track & field teams will get their first taste of outdoor competition this season when the teams take part in the 57th Annual Florida A&M Relays on March 9-10th. The two-day event will feature some of the top teams in collegiate and high school track & field and the WSSU teams will head into the looking to make an impression. Both Winston-Salem State Track & Field teams had solid performances in the indoor season which included taking part in the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason, the UNC Challenge hosted by the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York, New York.

 

Both the Rams and Lady Rams excelled in the sprint events, highlighted by a school record-setting performance by the Rams 4x400m Relay team at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. The team recorded a time of 3:19.68 in the event outpacing teams from Temple, Duke, and Villanova, among others. The squad finished second in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:29.97.

 

Not to be overshadowed, the Lady Rams have also had some solid performances during the indoor season, including sophomore sprinter Wykietha Barnett has highlighted the indoor season with some great performances, including qualifying for the finals of the 60m Dash in three of the team's five meets during the indoor season. Her best time in the 60m dash came at the Father Diamond Invitational wher she finished with a 00:07.74 time and in fourth place in the event.

 

The WSSU women's relay teams continue to be impressive this season with their best effort coming at the Carolina Classic Meet hosted by the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill on February 9th. The squad turned in a time of 4:12.22 in the event for a sixth-place finish.

 

The meet is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. at the Pete Griffin Track Complex.
