WINGATE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-1) got the 2012 season underway on a down note with a three-set loss to the UNC-Pembroke Braves (1-0), Friday afternoon. The match was hard-fought with tough defense on both sides of the net, but the Lady Rams could not overcome 17 receiving errors in the tough loss.
The Lady Rams gave a solid effort in spite of the miscues as the team totaled 22 kills with 16 attack errors and recorded 4.0 total team blocks. The Lady Rams held the edge in digs with 32 to the Braves' 30. WSSU junior Katelyn Sigala led the team's offensive effort with seven kills and tied for a team-high seven digs. Sophomore Brittany Rich also recorded seven digs in the match. Senior right side Francesca Edgerton added five kills.
The Lady Rams will return to action, tomorrow when the team takes on host Wingate in an 11:00 a.m. match, followed by a 3:30 p.m. match against Lee-McRae.
