MISENHEIMER, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-5) struggled heavily in a three-set loss to the Pfeiffer Falcons (1-4) on the opening day of the 2012 Pfeiffer Invitational. The Lady Rams struggled through some offensive woes to take the loss against the tough Falcons, Friday afternoon.
As a team, the Lady Rams totaled just 17 kills with 25 attack errors and finished the match with a -.091 hitting percentage. WSSU junior outside hitter Katelyn Sigala led the way for the Lady Rams with six kills in the match. Senior right side Francesca Edgerton had a solid match with three service aces. Junior middle blocker De Ann Smith added three block assists.
Things got tough for the Lady Rams as the team opened the match with a 25-18 loss in the opening set. The team ran into some offensive struggles, with a -.059 hitting percentage and only six kills in the set. The Lady Rams had a much better effort in the second set, battling to an 11-10 lead, but could not hold off the Falcons and ended the set with the 25-17 loss. The Lady Rams were able to pick up some late momentum, but a late Pfeiffer run sealed the WSSU loss. The team continued to struggle with 10 hitting errors in the second set. The team would not wait long to get things going as they jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the third set of the match. However, the Falcons proved to be too much for the Lady Rams as the team ended the match with a 25-14 loss in the final set of the match.
