FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-9, 0-1 CIAA, 0-1 CIAA South) gave it all they had, but the team took a tough five-set loss to the Fayetteville State (2-0, 1-0 CIAA, 1-0 CIAA South), Monday evening. The Lady Rams took the heartbreaking loss in spite of giving their best effort of the 2012 season.
As a team, the Lady Rams had a solid overall effort with a season-high 40 kills and 8.0 total clocks in the match. The team also added 55 digs in the match as well. Though the team gave the great effort, they were outgunned by the Lady Broncos, who totaled 52 kills with 62 digs in the match. WSSU senior right side hitter Francesca Edgerton led the Lady Rams attack with 12 kills in the match. Junior outside hitter Katelyn Sigala and senior middle blocker De Ann Smith added eight kills each as well. Freshman libero Katie McDaniel led the WSSU defensive effort with 12 digs.
The Lady Rams opened the match on a high note winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22. However, in the final three sets, things fell apart for the Lady Rams as the team took three straight losses 25-12, 25-14, and 15-4.
