MURFREESBORO, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-11, 0-3 CIAA) took a hard-fought loss to the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings (5-4, 4-0 CIAA) in a classic battle that saw all five sets decided by three or fewer points. In a match that was eerily similar to last Monday's match at Fayetteville State as the Lady Rams once again won the two opening sets before taking three losses in the final sets of the match. After taking the first two sets, 25-23 and 26-24, the Lady Rams fell in the final three sets, 25-22, 25-23, and 16-14.
The Lady Rams once again showed up against some one of the top teams in conference with a great team performance. As a team, the Lady Rams totaled 46 kills in the match. However, hitting errors once again plagued the team as WSSU totaled 36 in the match. The tandem of senior right side Francesca Edgerton and junior hitter Avoni Seymour recorded 11 kills each in the match. Senior middle blocker De Ann Smith added five blocks (two solo) in the match.
With the loss, the Lady Rams remain winless on the season at 0-11 and 0-3 in the CIAA. The team will return to action tomorrow when they close out the CIAA Round-Up against the host Chowan Lady Hawks in a 9:00 a.m. match.
