Lady Rams Battle Past Virginia Union for Four-Set Victory

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (3-14, 3-5 CIAA) had to battle past a tough Virginia Union (1-17, 1-7 CIAA), Saturday afternoon at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Round-Up. After taking a loss in the opening set of the match, the Lady Rams went on for three straight set wins to close out the victory and remained undefeated on the opening day of the round-up.

Things got tough for the Lady Rams early with Virginia Union taking a 25-23 win in the opening set. However, the Lady Rams would kick things into the gear and take the next three sets, 25-21, 25-19, and 25-23. As a team, the Lady Rams had a stellar offensive effort with 49 kills in the match. WSSU senior middle blocker De Ann Smith led the way for the Lady Rams with 13 kills in the match. Fellow senior right side hitter Francesca Edgerton added 11 kills. Sophomore hitter Chelsea Violenes added 10 kills.
