WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (7-19, 7-7 CIAA) picked up a key Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division win, Monday evening when the team notched a three-set victory over the Shaw Lady Bears (9-12, 5-9 CIAA). With the win, the Lady Rams move to 4-3 in the CIAA Southern Division and move to 7-7 in overall conference play.
The Lady Rams had a strong overall team effort to take the win, but had to battle past a stubborn and talented Shaw team the mounted several rallies to keep each set close. In the end, the Lady Rams were able to pull away for the 25-16, 25-19, and 25-20 set wins. As a team, the Lady Rams had a solid performance with 40 total kills and just 15 attack errors. WSSU junior Avoni Seymour led the way for the Lady Rams with nine kills and 10 digs in the match. She also added a pair of service aces. Senior Francesca Edgerton added 10 kills.
