PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-3, 7-0 CIAA) put on one of their most dominant performances of the season when the team took an impressive three-set win over the Bowie State Bulldogs (0-14, 0-8 CIAA), Saturday evening at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Round Up. The Rams claimed their ninth straight win in style, defeating the Bulldogs, 25-11, 25-8, and 25-20.
As a team, the Rams put on an impressive performance, totaling 30 kills with just 15 attack errors in the match. The Rams were led by senior outside hitter Sydney Holland's six points. Senior defensive specialist Michelle Murray-Garcia added four service aces as well.
The first set saw an impressive run by the Rams that led to the team's 25-11 win. The highlight of the set was an 11-2 rally by the Rams that put the team in charge and left the Rams on top for good. The second set was highlighted by an 11-1 run that put the Rams in control of the set and they went on to claim the 25-8 win. The third set was the most competitive for the Rams. This match was highlighted by an 8-1 run by the Bulldogs that left the Rams trailing 8-12. The Rams were later challenged with another five-point rally by the Bulldogs that left the team trailing, 11-17. However, the Rams would not be phased by the challenge as WSSU mounted a 6-2 run to get back into the set, 17-18. It was a late 5-1 run by the Rams that would close the set and sealed the win, 25-20.
With the win, the Rams improve to 10-3 overall and a perfect 7-0 in CIAA play. The Rams will return to action, tomorrow when the team takes on the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings in an 11:00 a.m. match.
