WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (19-7, 14-2 CIAA) sent their seniors out with a bang as the team took a dominating three-set senior night win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (5-19, 3-13 CIAA), Thursday evening. The Rams put on a dominating performance to take the 25-11, 25-12, and 25-8 win over the Blue Bears.
As a team, the Rams clicked on both sides of the ball. The Rams rolled in the match, totaling 39 kills in the match while allowing just 12 kills to the Blue Bears. WSSU senior outside hitter Jasmine Smith finished the match with a team-high 15 kills in the match while fellow senior outside hitter Sydney Holland and junior right side hitter Mia Herrod both added eight kills as well. Senior setter Mya Snow recorded 32 kills while sophomore middle blocker Brycelin Spidel recorded five total blocks (one solo) in the match.
The Rams took control of the match from the very beginning with a dominating first set. The highlight of the set was the Rams' 13-4 start. From there, Livingstone responded with four straight points to cut the WSSU lead down to five points, 13-8, but the Rams had an even better answer with a 12-3 run to close the set, 25-11.
The second set saw more domination from the Rams. Once again, the Rams opened the set with a 13-4 run to go ahead early. The Rams were especially impressive defensively as they never allowed back-to-back scores to the Blue Bears as they rolled on to claim the 25-12 set win.
The third set was the most impressive one for the Rams as the team put the match away. The Rams' 11-3 rally to open the set wasn't even the team's most impressive rally as the team mounted an 11-1 rally to close the match, 25-8.
With the win, the Rams close the regular season at 19-7 overall and 14-2 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The Rams will now await seeding for the upcoming CIAA Volleyball Championship Tournament.
