PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (21-7) advanced to the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Championship match in stellar fashion when the team took a three-set win over the CIAA Northern Division Champion Chowan Hawks (15-12), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the win behind a dominating overall performance. As a team, the Rams totaled 49 kills in the match while holding Chowan to just 26 kills. The second set was much closer, but in the end, the Rams showed their toughness to pull out the victory. After playing to a 15-15 tie to begin the set, the two teams battled back and forth. It was when the score was tied, 21-21 that the Rams would pull away with four straight points, including back-to-back kills from Holland.
The third set was another tough battle with the Rams pulling away late to take the victory. Once again, the Rams played to a 15-15 tie and fell behind, 15-17. From there, it was all WSSU with a 7-3 run to close out the set.
With the win, the Rams improve to 21-7 overall.
