Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams volleyball team lost their first game in the three-year history of the Lady Ram Invitational volleyball tournament on Friday evening.
The Lady Rams (1-7, 1-2 CIAA), the winners of the first and second annual Lady Ram Invitationals, had never been beaten in the three-year history of the tournament, and as with all good things, that streak came to an end at the hands of the Barton College Lady Bulldogs (9-3, 5-1 CVIAC) on Friday evening.
The Lady Rams, who easily defeated the Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears in their first game of the day, ran into the offensive juggernaut that was Barton College.
The Lady Rams were never out of the match, and every game could have gone in favor of either team. However, the fundamentally sound Lady Bulldogs came through in the clutch, handing the Lady Rams their seventh loss of the season.
Barton will return to action tomorrow, as they will start single elimination play undefeated in their quest to win the 2003 Lady Ram Invitational championship. The Lady Rams, after being handed their first loss in the history of the tournament, will also be in action tomorrow as they look to win their third straight Lady Ram invitational title. The Lady Rams will face Barton College in a rematch of tonight's game. The first serve is scheduled for 11:00 am.
