Lady Rams Break Four Game Losing Skid; Defeat JCSU 3-1

Oct. 7, 2004

Charlotte, NC - In a battle for fourth place in the CIAA western division, rivals Winston-Salem State University and Johnson C. Smith University began their quest for a championship seeding. The Lady Rams got off to a strong start defeating the Lady Golden Bulls 30-23. In the second set, JCSU came back strong and evened out the match to 1-1. A host of key mistakes would keep the Lady Bulls down with the score being 30-18.

The deciding set would be all Lady Rams, coming off to a huge 18-5 lead, forcing Coach Mark Raley to call a much needed timeout. Smith would give the ball right back and the Lady Rams would serve another 3 points before Smith would get another chance to serve. Bettina Murray would bring the team to within 13 points, but the powerful Rams would rally back and defeat the Bulls 30-15.

For the Lady Rams, All-CIAA outside hitter, Ebony Douglas (Jr./5'9"/Raleigh, NC) had 14 kills, 2 service aces and 4 digs. The Lady Bulls were once again led by freshman sensation Desirae Riddick, who registered an amazing 22 kills, 4 digs, 2 block solos and 2 block assists.

The Rams (2-11 overall, 2-3 CIAA) record only their second win of the season, but more importantly, their second win in the CIAA Western Division. The Golden Bulls drop to 5-7 overall, 1-4 CIAA, 1-4 DIV. The Lady Rams will return to action on Friday, October 10, 2003 as they travel to Fayetteville, NC to participate in the CIAA Volleyball round-up.
