Fayetteville, NC - The Lady Rams won their second match of the week on Friday afternoon as they easily defeated the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University on day one of the 2003 CIAA Volleyball Round-Up, 3-1.
The Lady Rams, who improve to 3-11 overall, and move to 3-3 in the CIAA with the victory, did not look flawless, but easily earned the victory, posting scores of 30-15; 30-17; 30-14 as they look to get a win streak started.
The Lady Rams, who posted a flawless 6-0 record at the 2002 Volleyball Round-Up, were led by Riquita Quick (Sr./5'9"/MH/Rockingham, NC) who tallied five kills on 14 attempts as well as recording three blocks.
Pre-Season All-CIAA selections Ebony Douglas (Jr./5'9"/OH/Raleigh, NC) and Chasity Clark (Jr./5'9"/OH/Winston-Salem, NC) chipped in with three and four kills respectively, and led the Lady Ram defense that easily thwarted dozens of Lady Panther attacks.
The Lady Panthers were led by Christina Taylor who recorded a match-high eight kills on 20 attempts. Her efforts were not enough however, as the Lady Panthers fell in defeat to the 2002 Western Division Champion Lady Rams.
The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday with a trio of games. They will face Elizabeth City State University at 9:30 am, Bowie State at 1:30 pm, and Virginia State at 5:30 pm. All three games will take place at E.E. Smith High School, the alternate venue for the 2003 CIAA Volleyball Round-Up.
