Sept. 2, 2006

Final Stats

HAMPTON, VA - North Carolina Central University's women's volleyball team showed exactly why they are among the nation's best Division II teams on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University by the score of 3-1 (28-30, 30-12, 30-14, 30-9) in the final match of the 2006 Lady Pirate Labor Day Volleyball Invitational.

Despite remaining winless at 0-9 on the season with the loss, the Lady Rams earned their first game-victory of the season as they defeated NCCU 30-28 in the first game of the match.  However, the Lady Eagles swept three consecutive games to register the match victory.

The Lady Rams' Annika Barnwell (Miami, FL/Michael Krops H.S.), a freshman outside hitter was named to the All-Tournament Team as she led WSSU on the weekend.

WSSU will return to action on Monday, September 4, 2006 at 6:00 pm when they play host to the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University at the Whitaker Gymnasium in the Lady Rams' first home contest of the 2006 season.
