Wingate, NC - The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team dropped its first match of the 2004 Wingate University volleyball tournament to fellow CIAA-member Saint Augustine's College by the score of 3-0 on the Friday afternoon.
The Lady Rams, who are very familiar with the three-time defending CIAA champion Lady Falcons pushed Saint Augustine's close to a loss in the first game before falling by the score of 30-27, however the remaining games were not as close.
WSSU dropped the second set by the score of 30-17 and fell in a heated final game by the score of 30-25.
WSSU Head Coach Lataya Hilliard-Gray had the following comment: "We know that Saint Augustine's is a very good team, and I think that we played well against them. We are a young team, and are only in our second match, so this is a good test of where we need to improve on, and it is not a conference game, so we learned some valuable things from this match and will be ready to go when we meet them again in CIAA play."
The Lady Rams fall to 1-1 on the season with the loss and will return to action on Saturday at 10:00 am as they will face the host-team, Wingate University in the second round.
