Winston-Salem, NC - The Lady Rams came out on the short end of the stick on Thursday evening as the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State came into the C.E. Gaines Center and stole a win from WSSU as they kept the Lady Rams winless on the season, defeating WSSU 3-1 (30-22, 24-30, 30-25, 30-24) in conference volleyball action in front of 123 fans in Winston-Salem, NC.

The Lady Broncos jumped out early on the home team as they secured a 30-22 victory in game #1 to pull ahead 1-0 in the match.

However, to the Lady Rams' credit, Head Coach Lataya Hilliard-Gray's young team bounced back to hand the Lady Broncos a 30-24 loss in game #2 behind a five-kill performance from All-CIAA sophomore Cherena Douglass.

The Lady Broncos would not be denied in the final two games of the match as they were the beneficiaries of 15 WSSU attacking errors in game #3 and received a stellar six-kill performance from Shinicka Spears in the final, and deciding, game-four.

Leading the way for the Lady Rams in the loss was freshman Valentina Pushkina who recorded 11 kills.  Cherena Douglass chipped in with eight kills and Ciera Simpson tallied five.

The Lady Broncos were led by Spears who tallied 11 total kills in the contest.  She was supported by Crystal Huffman who registered eight kills in the match.

With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 0-6 on the season (0-1 CIAA, 0-1 CIAA West) while the Lady Broncos improve to 1-6 on the season (1-1 CIAA, 1-0 CIAA West).

WSSU returns to action on Friday, September 9th as they travel to the Savannah State University invitational to face Southern University.  The Lady Rams and Lady Jaguars have met twice this season already with SU earning wins in both contests.
