Fayetteville, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams traveled to Fayetteville, NC on Thursday evening looking to break a five-game losing streak and looking for a Western Division CIAA win, and they accomplished both goals as they easily defeated the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State in three games.
The Lady Rams, who had not won a match since their season-opening victory over the Lady Bears of Shaw, won for the first time in six matches and earned an important CIAA Western Division victory in the process.
The Lady Rams were led by two-time All-CIAA First-Team selection, Chasity Clark (Sr./OH/Winston-Salem, NC) who tallied a match-high 16 kills while committing only foru errors for a hitting percentage of .226.
Clark was not the only Lady Ram to turn in an impressive offensive display as Kyra Pridgen (Jr./OH/Wilmington, NC) showed her athleticism en route to a nine kill, six-error performance.
All-CIAA First-Team setter Janessa Webb (So./S/Anchorage,AK), the only rookie to be named All-CIAA last season continued to show why she was a unanimous All-CIAA pick as she tallied 26 assists on the evening.
With the win, the Lady Rams improved to 2-5 overall, 2-0 in the CIAA and 1-0 in the Western Division while the Lady Broncos fell to 0-7 overall, 0-2 in the CIAA and 0-2 in the Western Division.
WSSU returns to action on September 15th, 2004 when they travel to Durham, NC to take on the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University.
