Lady Rams Volleyball Dumped By Virginia Union 3-0 At CIAA Round-Up

Sept. 18, 2004

Fayetteville, NCThe first day of the 2004 CIAA Volleyball Round-Up did not go smoothly for the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University as the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University handed them a 3-0 CIAA league-loss by the scores of 30-22, 30-21, 30-17 at Capel Arena in Fayetteville, NC.

The Lady Rams, who played only one match on Friday's first day of competition, encountered the new-look Lady Panthers of Virginia Union. The Lady Panthers rebuilt and overhauled their entire team in the off-season and are now a force to be reckoned with in the CIAA.

Despite a nine-kill, six-dig performance from Chasity Clark, the Lady Rams came up short as Virginia Union's Michaela Vanakova registered an 18-kill, four-error performance that paved the way for the Lady Panther victory.

Vanakova was not the only Lady Panther who put on an offensive showcase as her teammate, and CIAA Player of the Week, Gabriela Mokra collected 14 kills en route to the 3-0 sweep.

With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 2-7 overall and 2-2 in the CIAA. WSSU returns to action on Saturday morning as day two competition opens at 11:00 am.
