WSSU Advances To Lady Ram Volleyball Invitational Championship; Defeats ECSU 3-2

Sept. 24, 2005

Final Stats

Winston-Salem, NC - The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University earned themselves a berth in the 2005 Lady Rams Volleyball Invitational Tournament championship on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University by the score of 3-2 in second-round action from Winston-Salem, NC.

The Lady Vikings, fresh off of a loss to those very same Lady Rams, came out in the first game of the match looking for revenge.  Revenge they would not get, as the Lady Rams rallied from a two games to one deficit to earn the match victory and advance to the tournament championship to face undefeated (14-0) Paine College.

The Lady Rams won the first game of the match by the score of 30-25 before allowing ECSU to win the next two 30-28 and 30-23.

Looking at a 2-1 deficit with their tournament life on the line, the Lady Rams earned a 30-23 win in game four and a 15-12 win to secure the match in game five.

WSSU was led by Kyra Pridgen who tallied 14 kills in the win as she helped to propel the Lady Rams to the championship game.  The Lady Vikings were led by Tara Blakeney who chipped in with 13 kills in the losing effort.

With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 7-13 overall on the season and see their consecutive match win streak pushed to five.

The Lady Rams will face Paine College at 1:00 pm in the C.E. Gaines Center Gymnasium from the campus of Winston-Salem State University before returning to action on September 27th, 2005 as they travel to Salisbury, NC to face the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College at 6:00 pm.
