Sept. 25, 2004
Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams volleyball team fell to the fourth seeded Royals of Queens (NC) University in the second round of the 2004 Lady Ram Volleyball Invitational on Saturday afternoon by the score of 3-1 (30-25, 30-20, 23-30, 30-20) and failed to win the tournament championship for only the second time in four years.
The Lady Rams came into the contest seeded higher than their opponent as the third seed, but saw unforced errors and poor ball handling take its toll on their championship hopes.
Queens (NC) used a potent offensive attack and a formidable front line to hammer home the decisive victory.
To the Lady Rams credit, WSSU mounted a stiff comeback attempt after dropping the first two games of the match rather convincingly. WSSU rallied in the third stanza of play to cruise to a 30-23 win, but saw their hopes for a championship dashed in the fourth and final game of the match by the score of 20-30.
With the loss, the Lady Rams drop to 6-12 on the season. WSSU returns to action on September 29th, 2004 versus three-time defending CIAA Champion Saint Augustine's College.
