Lady Rams Take Tough Loss to USC-Upstate Spartans

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (3-15) showed some fight in Tuesday's 3-0 loss to the USC-Upstate Spartans (6-11, 0-4 Atlantic Sun). After getting off to a slow start, falling 15-30 in the opening game of the match, the team took a pair of close losses, 27-30 and 20-30 in the final two games of the match.

 

Offensive miscues plagued the Lady Rams with the team committing 22 errors in the match and dragging the team's hitting percentage to just .124 in the match. Sophomore hitter Annika Barnwell led the way for the team with 12 kills in the match. She also led the team's defensive effort with three blocks assists. Junior middle blocker Brandie Beane added five kills and eight digs in the match.

 

USC-Upstate had a great offensive effort with the team totaling 47 kills in the match. Spartan hitter Jesicah Ambrisco led the way with 22 kills and just one error. Freshman middle hitter Sandra Campbell added 10 kills in the match.

 

The Lady Rams will have a short break with the team taking on the Florida A&M Lady Rattlers in a 3:00 p.m. match at the C.E. Gaines Center.
