RALEIGH, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (9-11, 9-4 CIAA) picked up their second straight road victory Friday evening when the team took a three-set win over the Shaw Lady Bears (3-11, 3-10 CIAA). The Lady Rams turned up their offensive efforts to outscore the Lady Bears, winning all three sets 25-19, 25-22, and 25-18.
The Lady Rams had too much firepower for the Lady Bears as the team recorded 42 kills in the match. Senior middle hitter Georgette Allen led the way for the Lady Rams with 13 kills and a service ace. Fellow senior Ashley Harris added 10 kills as well. The duo weren't the only ones with strong performances as sophomore Mia McBroom recorded a career-high seven kills in the match. Sophomore setter Kiara Brown added 33 assists in the match. Senior hitter Erica Cole added three service aces in the match.
In the first set, the Lady Rams used a late surge to push their way to the win after holding a 13-12 lead. The team was able to pour on the effort to pick up the win, outscoring the Lady Bears 12-7 in the win. The second set turned out to be another battle with the teams taking a close 23-22 lead. After a WSSU timeout, the team was able to take advantage of a pair of Shaw errors to pick up the clutch win. With momentum on their side, the Lady Rams were able to seal the match with a 25-18 win in the third set. The Lady Rams took control of the set early and never looked back. After building a three-point 16-13 cushion, the Lady Rams never let the Lady Bears back into the set and took the win.
The Lady Rams won't have long to rest, however, as the team will host the Saint Augustine's Falcons at home, Monday evening. Admission to the match is free.
