Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams' volleyball team was handed a 3-1 defeat by the visiting Lady Falcons of St. Augustine's College in CIAA volleyball action at Whitaker Gymnasium on Tuesday evening by the scores of 22-30, 21-30, 30-28, 19-20 to fall to 8-16 overall and 6-6 in the CIAA.
The Lady Rams, playing without the services of All-CIAA First-Team outside hitter Chasity Clark (Sr./Winston-Salem, NC) who missed the contest with an injury that she sustained this past weekend at the Paine College Volleyball Invitational, were severely disadvantaged offensively and had trouble mounting a real challenge to the three-time defending CIAA volleyball champion Lady Falcons.
To WSSU's credit, the Lady Falcons did not have an easy time of it as they recorded their three game wins by a cumulative margin of only 28 points and saw the Lady Rams steal game three from them 30-28.
WSSU was led by Cherena Douglass (Fr./Springfield, IL) who tallied 12 kills in the contest. SAC was led by Aurea Griffith who led three Lady Falcons in double figures with 18 kills.
With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 8-16 overall and 6-6 in the CIAA while the Lady Falcons improve to 11-4 overall and 10-2 in the CIAA.
WSSU returns to action on Saturday, October 16th as they travel to the University of the District of Columbia to compete in non-conference volleyball action.
