ORANGEBURG, SC - The road has not been kind to the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-24) this weekend as the team took its second straight three-set road loss in two days. On Sunday, the Lady Rams suffered a three-set loss to the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs (9-14) in a match that took just over an hour. Struggles on both offense and defense plagued the Lady Rams, who fell 14-25, 16-25, and 16-25.
As a team, the Lady Rams managed just 19 total kills and committed 18 hitting errors to finish with a .013 team hitting percentage. The Lady Rams had their struggles on defense as well allowing 40 kills and a .321 attack percentage to South Carolina State.
WSSU senior Annika Barnwell led the way for the Lady Rams with 11 kills in the match. However, the rest of the squad managed just eight kills. Barnwell added a team-high nine digs as well.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Tuesday evening when they host the Elon Phoenix in the 2009 "Pink Out" match. The event will be held in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness and admission is free.
