FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (11-13, 11-6 CIAA) had a tough evening in a three-set road loss to the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos (12-6, 12-4 CIAA), Tuesday evening. Though every set of the match turned out to be a hard-fought affair, the Lady Rams fell just short against the tall, athletic defense of the Lady Broncos in the match, falling 25-22, 25-23, and 25-23.
Every set of the match was a As a team, the Lady Rams managed 24 kills, but the team's 26 attack errors, in addition to 7.5 total team blocks by the Lady Broncos, were critical to the Lady Rams as the team took the tough three-set loss. Senior hitter Ashley Harris led the WSSU attack with nine kills and six digs in the loss. Fellow senior Georgette Allen added five kills as well. Redshirt-sophomore middle blocker Mia McBroom added four block assists in the match.
The first set was a hard-fought set as the Lady Rams saw a big lead fade late in the tough loss. After taking control of the set, 18-13, the team managed just four more points in the set, including allowing a six-point run by the Lady Broncos to take the loss.
In the second set, the Lady Rams saw another lead disappear in the tough loss. After taking control of the set, 16-13, the Lady Rams battled to a 22-22 tie, but an FSU attack error turned out to be the only remaining score that the Lady Rams could manage in the set.
The final set turned out to be another tough battle as the Lady Rams and Lady Broncos once again battled to several ties. After falling behind, 8-3 the Lady Rams worked their way back into the set, 16-16. The two teams would continue to battle to a 23-23 tie. However, a pair of Lady Bronco kills ended the match for the Lady Rams.
The loss ended a two-game streak for the Lady Rams, but the team will have a chance to end the season on a high note when they return to the road to take on the Virginia State Lady Trojans in a road season finale.
