Durham, NC - The opening rounds of the 2004 CIAA Women's Volleyball Championship did not go well for WSSU as they fell in defeat for the second straight match, this time to the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University by the score of 3-0 (30-16, 30-16, 30-22) on Friday afternoon after stumbling in the morning's game falling 3-0 (30-20, 30-21, 30-20) in defeat to the #2 seeded (East Division) Lady Trojans of Virginia State University.
The Lady Rams, who were seeded as the #3 seed in the Western Division, dropped the first and second games 30-16 before falling in the final game 30-22.
Leading the way in a losing effort for the Lady Rams was Ruth Matovu who recorded 6 kills in the contest. NCCU was led by Patricia Rodrigues who recorded 14 kills and Brenda Brown who tallied 11.
WSSU falls to 11-21 on the season and moves on in pool play to face an as-yet-to-be-determined opponent at 6:30 pm.
