PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Behind a match-high 17 kills from Melanie Durimel, the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore handed the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University a 3-1 (30-14, 30-11, 25-30, 30-9) defeat from the W.P. Hytche Center in Princess Anne, MD on Friday evening.
The Lady Rams fell victim to a Lady Hawks team that played nearly flawless volleyball during the first two games of the match as UMES recorded 38 kills and committed only three errors in racing out to an early 2-0 match lead.
WSSU played well during the first two games of the match as well as the Lady Rams tallied 11 kills and committed only nine errors, yet were unable to mount a challenge as UMES recorded a .571 attack percentage during the first two games of the match.
Determination and grit earned the Lady Rams a victory in the third game of the match as they grounded the Lady Hawks 30-25 as WSSU forced 15 UMES attack errors en route to cutting their deficit to two games to one.

However, UMES earned a 30-9 win in the fourth, and final game of the day as they secured a 3-1 match victory to earn their 18th win of the season.
Leading the way for WSSU was a trio of players with four kills as Ciera Simpson, Seidah El-Amin, and Valentina Pushkina paced the Lady Rams.
With the loss the Lady Rams fall to 2-30 on the season while UMES improves to 18-14 overall.
