Two Lady Ram Volleyball Players Garner Pre-Season All-CIAA Honors

Aug. 24, 2004

Hampton, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced the 2004 CIAA Pre-Season All-CIAA volleyball team on Monday afternoon and two WSSU Lady Ram volleyball student-athletes were among the 13 players from around the conference who were awarded the All-Conference honors.

WSSU outside hitter Chasity Clark (Sr./5'10"/Winston-Salem, NC) was one of three outside hitters to earn Pre-Season All-CIAA honors in 2004. It comes as no surprise to many as she has garnered All-CIAA First-Team honors the past two seasons. Clark, is a local product as she hails from Winston-Salem, NC and has led her hometown Lady Rams in kills the past two seasons. She will once again be looked at to be WSSU's primary offensive weapon. She tallied a team-high 271 kills in 2003 and averaged 2.63 winners per game.

Despite being only a sophomore, WSSU setter Janessa Webb (So./5'5"/Anchorage, AK) is one of only two setters in the CIAA to earn Pre-Season honors. Webb will return to the lineup as WSSU's starting setter and will look to replicate the success of 2003 that earned her CIAA All-Rookie Team honors and placed her on the All-CIAA First-Team, the only rookie to have been given that honor. She recorded a team-high 602 assists in 2003 as she averaged 6.27 assists per game in addition to being a defensive stalwart, tallying 92 digs in 96 games while registering 41 kills as well.

Both Webb and Clark will look to start the 2004 season off on a positive note when they take to the court on September 1st at 6:00 pm as they play host to the Lady Bears of Shaw University in the Whitaker Gymnasium.
