Hampton, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association released its 2005 Volleyball Pre-Season All-CIAA team as selected by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association on Thursday, and two Lady Rams were amongst the 12 players from around the conference upon which honors were bestowed.
Lady Ram outside hitter Kyra Pridgen, a senior business major from Wilmington, NC was selected as one of the conference's three best players at her position. She is joined by Brenda Brown from North Carolina Central University and Michaela Vanakova, the 2004 CIAA Volleyball Player of the Year, from Virginia Union University.
Rounding out the WSSU selections is Cherena Douglass. A sophomore middle hitter from Springfield, IL, the Physical Science major was named to the Pre-Season All-CIAA team at the middle hitter/blocker position. She is joined by Fayetteville State University's Shinicka Spears and North Carolina Central's Danielle Johnson-Webb.
The honor marks Pridgen and Douglass' second time that the duo has earned an All-CIAA honor as Douglass was named to the All-Rookie Team last season and Pridgen was named to the All-CIAA Team in 2003.
The Lady Rams take to the court on Friday, September 2nd, 2005 as they travel to Hampton, VA to take part in the Hampton Lady Pirate Labor Day Volleyball Classic.
