WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams cross country teams dominated the 2011 Wilbur Ross Invitational, Saturday morning as both teams took first place finishes in the event. The Rams totaled 25 points to take the men's 5K run win while the Lady Rams posted 41 points to win the women's 5K run. WSSU junior Andrew Chebii won the men's 5K run while sophomore Brittney Killebrew won the women's 5K run.
Chebii led four WSSU runners in the top 10 of the event. He posted a 15:55.09 to take his third straight win of the season. He was followed by WSSU senior Desmond Wiggan finished a close second with a 16:33.75 while fellow senior Aaron Barnes placed fourth with a 16:50.11. Junior Fabian White rounded out the Rams runners in the top ten with a 17:39.35.
Killebrew won the women's 5K with a 19:55.61 and led three WSSU runners in the top 10 of the event. She won the race in 19:55.61 while junior Manuela Rigaud placed third with a 20:43.35. Rigaud barely edged out fellow junior Tyrah Winfrey with a 20:45.38.
With the meet done, the Rams and Lady Rams will prepare to defend their Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) titles in their next action when they take part in the 2011 CIAA Cross Country Championships on October 22nd in Cary, N.C.
