Brooks Named CIAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week; Morris Named CIAA Coach of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC – After a great week, the honors came in for the Winston-Salem State University Rams Women's Cross Country Team. WSSU freshman Ojai Brooks was honored as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week while interim head coach Winston Morris was honored as the CIAA Women's Cross Country Coach of the Week.

Brooks took home the honor after winning the Virginia State Fall Opener Women's 5K Run. She placed first in the event with a 19:35.52. She held off a challenge from second place, but won by 30 seconds. The time marked a career-best for the freshman.

Morris took the coach of the week honor after leading the Rams to a first place finish at the meet with 46 points. The Rams edged out Fayetteville State by the slimmest of margins, besting the Broncos by a single point to take first place in the event, which featured eight of the 12 teams in the CIAA.

The Rams cross country teams will return to action next week when the team heads to Wingate, N.C. to take part in the Bulldog Stampede hosted by Wingate. For more information on Rams cross country, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
