Travis Named CIAA Women's Runner of the Week; Daniels Named CIAA Women's Coach of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC – The honors just keep coming in for the Winston-Salem State Rams women's cross country team as WSSU freshman Imani Travis was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Runner of the Week while WSSU head coach James Daniels was honored as the CIAA Women's Coach of the Week, Wednesday morning. The duo took home the honors after a stellar performance at the 34th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational, Saturday.

Travis was named the CIAA Women's Runner of the Week for the first time in her career after she won the NCAA Division II division at the meet. She ran a 20:18.87 to lead all NCAA Division II runners and she posted a ninth place finish overall at the meet.

Daniels was named the CIAA Women's Coach of the Week after leading the Rams to the NCAA Division II Championship at the 34th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational. The Rams totaled 27 points at the meet to take first place among the NCAA Division II teams at the meet. Along with Travis, who won the NCAA Division II division at the meet, the Rams also placed fellow freshman Zakyrah Hynie who ran a 20:42.99 to place second among NCAA Division II runners and freshman Ojai Brooks who placed sixth among NCAA Division II runners.

The Rams will return to action, Saturday morning when the team takes part in the Cedric Walker HBCU Challenge, Saturday morning at the WakeMed Park in Cary, N.C.
