2009: Tyrah wasted little time becoming the Lady Rams' top performer as she led the team in every meet of the season...She got her career off to a great start with a pair of top ten finishes...She got things started with a 25:29.22 6K effort at the 2009 UNC-Pembroke Invitational...She finished 10th in the event...She won the 2009 Salem College Invitational where she led all runners with a 21:57.7 in the event...Her best 5K time of the season came at the Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival...She placed 56th at the event with a 20:26.

Personal: Tyrah Winfrey will joins the Winston-Salem State cross country team this fall as a member of another talented freshman class...She is a multi-talented athlete whose focus remains on middle distance and cross country events...She comes to WSSU after a great high school career at 71st High School in Fayetteville, N.C....She ran a 19:48 (5K) at the 2008 NCSHAA State 4-A Cross Country Championships, a 1:20 in the 500m NCSHAA State Indoor Track & Field Championships, and a 2:18 at the NCSHAA Outdoor State Championships...For her efforts, she earned team MVP honors as well as the Coach's Award...She is the daughter of Marvin and Linda Thomas.
