WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Rams and Lady Rams cross country teams brought out one of their best efforts in front of a home crowd with some dominant performances at the 2009 Salem College XC Invitational, Saturday morning. The Rams and Lady Rams "ran away" with the event with the Rams winning the men's division and the Lady Rams taking third place in the women's division.
The Rams dominated the team competition taking first place with 27 points while the young Lady Rams also had a great finish, placing third with 91 points. Individually, first place belonged to WSSU as Ram freshman Andrew Chebii and Lady Ram freshman Tyrah Winfrey both took first place in the event.
In the men's race, it was Chebii taking first place with a 26:05.5 in the men's 8K event. WSSU sophomore Aaron Barnes took third place with 28:14.6 while junior Desmond Wiggan was a close fourth at 28:17.4.
The Lady Rams also came to run as well with freshman Tyrah Winfrey taking first place in the women's 5K with 21:57.7. Sophomore Ashley Lawson had the second best WSSU finish with a 14th-place finish at 23:18.3.
Both teams will return to action on Saturday when the take part in the N.C. State/Reebok Cross Country Invitational in Cary, North Carolina.
