Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University women's cross-country team fell in defeat to the visiting Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University on Monday afternoon in Winston-Salem, NC despite the Lady Rams' Janessa Webb earning a first-place finish with a time of 24:02.

The Lady Rams, led by the strong performance of Webb turned in one of their best showings in recent history, but fell to a very strong Lady Golden Bull team by nine points.

The race, which was originally scheduled for last Thursday afternoon, was rescheduled due to heavy rains that the Piedmont experienced during the aftermath of a recent hurricane.

The postponement did not seem to trouble Johnson C. Smith as they placed second, third, fourth, sixth and eighth to capture the win.

Janessa Webb finished first overall with a time of 24:02 with her teammate Shamika Bobbitt crossing the finish line five minutes and 29 seconds later en route to a fifth place finish.

With the loss the Lady Rams fall to 0-1 overall (0-1 CIAA) and return to action on September 15th, 2004 when they travel to Charlotte, NC to square off against the Lady Golden Bulls in a rematch race.
