CARY, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Cross Country teams continue to be impressive this season with great performance at the 2009 Wolfpack Invitational. The Rams posted a third place finish while the Lady Rams finished fourth at the event that saw WSSU line up against some of the top distance programs on the East Coast, including teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
As a team, the Rams finished third in the event with 90 total points, holding 4th, 17th, 19th, 22nd, 28th, 36th, and 37th. WSSU freshman Andrew Chebii followed his strong start to the season with a fifth place finish at the 5K event in 14:52.00. He was the second runner not affiliated with host North Carolina State and the first non-Atlantic Coast Conference runner to cross the finish line and was just 17 seconds behind the winning time for the event. Fellow Ram Aaron Barnes had the second best WSSU finish of the day with a 25th placed finish with a 16:22.00. Fellow sophomore Desmond Barnes was close behind Barnes at 28th with a 16:50.00.
The Lady Rams also had a solid day, finishing fourth at the event, with runners scoring and finishing with a 123 total score and scoring finishes at the 16th, 24th, 26th, 27th, 30th, 33rd, and 35th positions. WSSU freshman Tyrah Winfrey led the Lady Rams' effort finishing 34th overall. Sophomore Ashley Lawson had the second best WSSU finish of the day, placing 42nd overall with a 21:50.00 at the 5K event.

Both teams will return to action next weekend when they take part in the 2009 Greensboro Invitational at nearby Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro, N.C.
