Salisbury, NC - The Winston-Salem State University women's cross-country team turned in a valiant effort but was unable to get by either the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University or the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone at the Salisbury 8K Cross-Country Invitational on Wednesday.
The Lady Rams were led by once again led by two-sport star Janessa Webb. Webb, who just one night prior was leading the Lady Rams on the volleyball court, changed shoes and led WSSU with a time of 18:53 seconds.
Webb's teammates were not far behind as Janet Robinson recorded a time of 21:33 and Shamika Bobbitt crossed the finish line in 21:39.
Despite the stellar showing, the Lady Rams could not get by either of the host-teams' two squads, as well as being narrowly edged by the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith by two points.
WSSU recorded 72 points, good enough for a fourth-place finish, while the Lady Golden Bulls recorded only 70 (third) and Livingstone College took the top two places as the "B" team registered 66 points and the "A" team was saddled with only 49.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, September 25th as they travel to Greensboro, NC to participate in the Greensboro Invitational.
